The Rural Energy Fund (REF) represents a mechanism by which the Rural Energy Board (through REA) fulfills its mandate. A Trust Agent is responsible for disbursement funds.

The Rural Energy Agency

Rural Energy Agency (REA) was established by the Act of Parliament No. 8 of 2005 as is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Energy and Minerals of the United Republic of Tanzania. Its main role is to promote and facilitate improved access to modern energy services in rural areas of Mainland Tanzania by working in partnership and collaboration with the private sector, Non-Governmental Organizations, Community Based Organizations and other Government agencies. REA is governed by the Rural Energy Board (REB) and is funded through the Rural Energy Fund (REF), a Trust Agent is responsible disbursement of funds.
